My Services

We’re all unique. So I’ve found that a “one-sized-fits-all” approach doesn’t work for psychotherapy, and instead use a more eclectic and mixed approach comprised of psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, emotionally focused therapy as well as mindfulness and other useful techniques. I believe that present issues stem from past experiences, and once we have insight into those underlying reasons we can then identify strategies to change your behavior.

I offer therapy for individuals and couples; I offer comprehensive services dealing with:

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained therapist—in a safe, caring, and confidential environment—to explore their feelings, beliefs, or behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.

People seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons, from coping with major life challenges or childhood trauma, to dealing with depression or anxiety, to simply desiring personal growth and greater self-knowledge. A client and therapist may work together for as few as five or six sessions or  as long as several years, depending on the client’s unique needs and personal goals for therapy.

Pregnancy & Postpartum Support

Depression that occurs during pregnancy or within a year after delivery is called perinatal depression. Researchers believe that depression is one of the most common complications during and after pregnancy. Factors that may increase the likelihood of depression during or after pregnancy can include; history of depression or substance abuse, family history of mental illness, inadequate support from family and friends, anxiety about the fetus, problems with previous pregnancy or birth, marital or financial problems, young age (of mother or newborn). Tiredness, problems sleeping, stronger emotional reactions, hormonal changes, and changes in body weight normally occur during and after pregnancy, but these symptoms may also be signs of depression.

Couples Therapy

Couples counseling is a process through which a couple (who may be engaged, dating, married, partnered—or sometimes even parent and child or other pairings) works with a trained therapist to identify specific areas of conflict and/or aspects of their relationship they would like to change, and then develops a plan of action to improve each individual’s satisfaction and contentment.

Working with a therapist in a safe and confidential setting, couples are able to explore how their individual backgrounds, beliefs, thoughts, and emotions may be impacting their relationship in both positive and negative ways. The therapist may assist the couple with addressing any immediate and pressing problems, as well as developing strategies for protecting and enhancing the long-term health and happiness of their relationship.

Grief & Bereavement Counseling

Grief and bereavement aren’t light-hearted topics. Bereavement refers to the process of recovering from the death of a loved one, and grief is a reaction to any form of loss. Both encompass a wide range of emotions such as fear, anger, and deep, deep sadness. The process of adapting to a loss can dramatically change from person to person, depending on his or her background, beliefs, relationship to the person who’s passed, and other factors. Common symptoms of grief can be physical, emotional, or social.
